Our Analysis

We reviewed 14 Islamic vehicle financing products from 13 Pakistani banks in August 2026. Pricing transparency splits the market cleanly: Faysal, UBL Ameen, Allied, and Bank of Khyber publish full rate matrices you can compute an installment from, while BankIslami, MCB Islamic, Bank AL Habib, and Al Baraka publish no base rate at all and quote only in-branch. Among published rates, BOK's 1-year KIBOR + minimum 2.0% is the tightest spread and Meezan's fixed 12.98% to 13.29% Car Ijarah is the benchmark for rate certainty.

Structure matters more here than in home financing. True Ijarah products (Meezan, Bank Alfalah, Allied) keep the vehicle on the bank's books: the bank pays for ownership risk and rentals stop on total loss. Diminishing Musharakah products (UBL, Faysal, HBL, BankIslami) build your equity from the first installment. Bank of Khyber and MCB Islamic let you choose between the two on the same product, which is worth using if you have a view on early exit: buying out Musharakah units early is usually cheaper than breaking a lease.

When comparing, look at three numbers beyond the rate: the security deposit (15% at Bank AL Habib for small new cars, 30% standard, up to 50% at HBL), the Takaful cost (1.5% to 2.8% of vehicle value per year), and the early exit terms, which range from DIB's published declining grid to flat percentage charges elsewhere.

Debt is just one of 7 categories. Average score: 63/100.

How Islamic Car Financing Works in Pakistan

Lease-based Ijarah, co-ownership Musharakah, and the rules that shape every offer

Car Ijarah (Bank-Owned Lease)

The bank buys and owns the vehicle and rents it to you. Meezan pioneered this in Pakistan and published fixed rates of 12.98% to 13.29% by tenure in August 2026, with the car transferred at a token amount or gifted at term end.

Diminishing Musharakah

You and the bank co-own the car; your installments buy out the bank's Musharakah units. Used by UBL Ameen Drive, Faysal, HBL Islamic, BankIslami, and others.

Fixed vs KIBOR-Linked

Askari's Ijarah Bis Sayyarah locks the rental for the full 2 to 5 years; most rivals reprice annually off 1-year KIBOR. Fixed costs slightly more but cannot rise with the policy rate.

The 1000cc Tenure Rule

Across almost every bank, cars up to 1000cc get 5-year terms while bigger engines are capped at 3 years. MCB Islamic extends 5-year terms to locally assembled EVs of any engine size.

Takaful and Tracker Bundled

Islamic car financing bundles vehicle Takaful (BankIslami quotes 1.49% to 2.8% of vehicle value across its partners) and usually a mandatory tracker. Factor both into total cost.

Motorcycles Too

Meezan Apni Bike finances motorcycles and electric bikes on Musawamah, with ownership transferring to you on delivery and terms up to 3 years.

Choosing Islamic Car Financing

What Does Islamic Car Financing Cost?

Published Rates, August 2026

Meezan Car Ijarah published fixed rates of 12.98% (1 year) to 13.29% (7 years), or 11.74% variable, excluding Takaful and tracker. Askari's fixed rentals ran approximately 13.79% to 15.37% by segment and tenor. KIBOR-linked products printed spreads of + 2.0% minimum (Bank of Khyber) to + 5.75% (UBL Ameen, new-to-bank, longest tenor). On top of the rate, budget 1.5% to 2.8% of vehicle value per year for Takaful plus a tracker.

Compare the security deposit, tenure options, Takaful, and processing fees across banks, not just the monthly installment.

Alternative: Saving and Buying Cash

Buying outright eliminates all financing cost and is the most universally accepted halal approach. Some families combine approaches: a modest financed vehicle now, then saving toward a cash purchase next time.

If you save toward a purchase, an Islamic money market fund keeps the fund halal while it grows.

How Should You Finance a Vehicle?

You can save and buy cash

Do that. No financing structure beats no financing.

You want a predictable installment

Askari's Ijarah Bis Sayyarah fixes the rental for the full 2 to 5 years; Meezan and DIB also offer fixed options. You pay a small premium over variable for the certainty.

You want the lowest published spread

Bank of Khyber prices both its structures at 1-year KIBOR + minimum 2.0%. Allied's grid starts at + 1.75% for corporate segments, and salary-account customers get the best tiers everywhere.

You're buying a motorcycle or low-cost vehicle

Meezan Apni Bike finances motorcycles and electric bikes on Musawamah from PKR 40,000 monthly income. QistBazaar covers appliances and motorcycles on SECP-certified installment plans.

You're an overseas Pakistani

Allied's Roshan Apni Car prices at the SBP floor + 1% (lien-based) through Roshan Digital Accounts, materially below standard segment pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick Answer

The best Islamic car financing in Pakistan depends on whether you want rate certainty or the lowest spread. Meezan Car Ijarah published fixed rates of 12.98% to 13.29% by tenure in August 2026 (11.74% variable), and Askari fixes rentals for the full 2 to 5 year term. Among KIBOR-linked products, Bank of Khyber's + 2.0% minimum spread is the tightest printed pricing. Standard terms across the market: roughly 30% security deposit, 5-year maximum tenure for cars up to 1000cc (3 years above), bundled Takaful, and a mandatory tracker.

Key Takeaways

  • Three structures exist: Car Ijarah (bank-owned lease), Diminishing Musharakah (co-ownership buyout), and Musawamah for motorcycles.
  • Published pricing in August 2026 ran from KIBOR + 2.0% (Bank of Khyber) to + 5.75% (UBL Ameen new-to-bank); fixed rates from 12.98% (Meezan, 1-year).
  • Security deposits start at 15% (Bank AL Habib, new cars up to 1000cc); 30% is the market standard.
  • Cars over 1000cc are capped at 3-year tenures almost everywhere; MCB Islamic exempts locally assembled EVs.
  • Takaful (1.5% to 2.8% of vehicle value per year) and tracker costs materially change the comparison between banks.
